A CIBIL score is a 3-digit number from 300 to 900 based on your loan and credit card repayment history. Most lenders treat 750 or above as a strong score. Ranges below are commonly used guidance; every bank sets its own rules.
| Score | Rating | What it usually means |
|---|---|---|
| 750 – 900 | Excellent | Best chance of quick approval and lower interest rates. |
| 700 – 749 | Good | Approval is likely for most loans and cards. |
| 650 – 699 | Fair | Possible approval, often at higher interest or with conditions. |
| 300 – 649 | Needs work | Many lenders may decline unsecured loans. Focus on improving. |
| NA / NH (-1) | No history | Not a bad score. You simply have little or no credit history yet. |

Frequently asked questions
How can I check my CIBIL score for free?
Visit the official TransUnion CIBIL website (cibil.com) and request your free annual CIBIL score and report. You need your PAN, mobile number and email. TransUnion CIBIL gives one free report each calendar year. Experian, Equifax and CRIF High Mark also give one free report a year each.
Does checking my own CIBIL score reduce it?
No. When you check your own score it is a soft inquiry and has no effect on your score. Only hard inquiries, made when a lender checks your report after you apply for credit, can have a small impact.
What is the minimum CIBIL score for a loan?
There is no single minimum fixed by law. Most banks prefer 750 or above for personal loans and credit cards. Secured loans like home or gold loans can be more flexible. Each lender sets its own criteria.
Is CibilScores.com the official CIBIL website?
No. CibilScores.com is an independent information website and is not affiliated with TransUnion CIBIL or any bank. We do not check scores ourselves; our buttons take you to the official bureau websites.
How often is my CIBIL score updated?
Lenders report your repayment data to the credit bureaus. Under RBI's revised rules effective July 1, 2026, they report it weekly (it was every 15 days before), so a payment can show up on your score within days to a couple of weeks.
What does a CIBIL score of NA or NH mean?
NA or NH (sometimes shown as -1) means you do not have enough credit history to calculate a score. It is not a bad score. Starting with a small credit card or a secured card and paying on time builds your history.
